Discover a different Venice

A view of Venice

It is your first time in Venice? Are you a regular visitor?

It does not matter: it is always a magical city.
I suggest a path completely different from the classic route going from Piazzale Roma to St. Mark’s square and return.

The district of Cannaregio is not so beaten by tourists and it is easy to reach on foot or

by boat, either if you are arriving by train or by car. From the Santa Lucia railway station going towards Piazza San Marco, in Strada Nova, you can find a widening on your right: there is a nice shop there, Ai Do Bauchi, where you can have a bag of fried fish, fried mixed vegetables or the so-called mozzarella in carrozza (fried mozzarella sandwich). Taste it during your walking around Venice.

During the walk around Venice, you will see the Palazzo Vendramin Calergi (2040 Cannaregio) which

Fondamenta dei Mori

is considered a Renaissance model of the historical houses for its elegance. If you want to have a drink as the Venetians do, I recommend the wine and food shop Timon (Fondamenta Ormesini 2754). It is run by nice, young people: it is the traditional meeting place for real Venetians, where you can have a cicchetto or un’ombra (a shot or a glass of wine).

There is a suggestive of the Campo e Fondamenta dei Mori: this name comes from the statues of three people with the turban that seem to walk along the calle (= Venetian street) and towards the  “Sior Rioba,” a fourth Moor with an iron nose.

Close to here you will find a nice restaurant Ristorante Ai 40 ladroni - Calle dea Sensa-  where there are true flavors and manners of Venice.
If you go in summer you can eat outside with the chair a few inches from the channel: a priceless experience in the evening.
