Italy vs Slovenia and George Michael’s concert in Florence

Two unforgettable events will warm up the heart and the voice of whoever will come in Florence during the second week of September 2011.

The Stadio ‘Artemio Franchi’ and Santa Croce Square will enliven your nights on September, 6th and 10th with two different but equally exciting shows.

On the 6th of September Italy will play their Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.

Stadio Franchi, Firenze

This will be a crucial match for the Azzurri, since it may guarantee that Cesare Prandelli’s men will play the UEFA Euro 2012 in advance. An extra reason for supporting the Italian national Football Team in Florence.

George Michael

During the same week, Florence will host another unforgettable event, dedicated to pop music, soul, r’n’b e rock. On the 10th of September George Michael, one of the most beloved musicians ever lived, will perform in Santa Croce Square with his new tour: Symphonica – The Orchestral Tour. Symphonica is George Michael’s first tour in Europe after having toured with “25 Love” three years ago. George Michael will perform not only his most popular songs, but also covers of his favourite artists.

Both the football match and George Michael’s concert will cause a storm of emotions! Take the opportunity to visit Florence and its artistic-cultural heritage from Sept, 6th to Sept, 10th.

Caravaggio & Caravaggeschi Art Exhibitions in Florence till 17th October 2010

Caravaggio and the caravaggeschi in Florence till 17th October 2010Even though the presence of Caravaggio in Florence is has never really been proven, the city is hosting two art exhibitions dedicated to the 400th anniversary of Caravaggio’s death.

Italian artist Caravaggio was ahead of his time and his portraits are amazingly realistic works of art.  This Italian artist new exactly how to ‘paint light’, giving his work an almost photo-realistic dimension.

The events celebrating the life and work of this revolutionary artist are:

  • Caravaggio and the Caravaggeschi in Florence”  – this exhibition will take place at the Palatine and Uffizi galleries.

  • Caravaggio and Modernity” – on show at this exhibition held at Villa Bardini are art works from the collection of the Roberto Longhi Foundation.  Apart from the 100 Caravaggio paintings on display, the exhibition also features the works of Artemisia Gentileschi, Battistello, Caracciolo, and Theodor Rombouts, amongst others.

Besides the paintings on show, as a result of recently completed research, visitors will also have the opportunity to view documents and learn about newly discovered aspects of Caravaggio’s often tumultuous life.  Caravaggio was the ‘bad boy’ of the Italian art scene in his day.

The events in Florence run until the 17 October 2010.

If you want to take part in this fascinating cultural event in Florence, possibly as part of a weekend break exploring the sights of one of Italy’s most beautiful Italian cities, then you will need somewhere to stay, in which case you might like to take a look at a few interesting Bed & Breakfasts in the neighbourhood.
