SugarPulp Festival

From 29th September to 2nd October will be held in Padua “SUGARPULP“, a festival of noir writing that has its roots in the wilds of North-Eastern Italian. The homeland becomes itself an important “character” in the novel, in the novella, in the story, and it is not only a simple frame. But the Festival goes even further, giving space to expressive forms similar to the novel as the comic to celebrate the ability of visual impact thanks to the power of the drawings.

Masters and newcomers of the genre will find themselves in Padua for what promises to be one of the biggest events of the season: a four-day full immersion – the preview will take place on 19th September – of meetings, panel discussions, screenings and concerts. More than 30 events to enliven the city, painting it with shades of noir, pulp and thriller. The first Sugarpulp Festival, which will have as its heart the Centro Culturale San Gaetano, one of the greatest cultural centres of Europe, thanks to many synergies on the area, managed to bring in Padua an authors cast of international standing such as Jeffery Deaver, Joe R. Lansdale, Victor Gischler, Massimo Carlotto, Tim Willocks and Jan Wallentin.

The so-called “Big Six” will be joined to six international comic stars: Alberto Ponticelli, Alessandro Vitti, Matteo Scalera, Elia Bonetti, Davide Furno, Andrea Mutti.

The fourth edition of the IRB Junior World Championship 2011 will be taking place for the first time in Veneto, where it will be hosted in Padua, Treviso e Rovigo.

The first international match of the IRB JWC will be taking place in only 28 days, since the Championship will start on June 10^th and will last until June 26^th.

The Italy Rugby Team will be among the firsts to play, starting to compete against the New Zealand Team – the current champions – and then Argentina and Wales.

You will certainly enjoy the Championship, because the 12 World Rugby Teams are all very well-trained and in the running for the World Title.

The Duomo of Piove di Sacco - Padua

Half an hour down the road from Padua in Italy for 380 years the town of Piove di Sacca has dressed itself up in honour of its patron saint – San Martino.  Well worth a visit, Piove di Sacca’s annual fair and street market is regarded as being one of the most suggestive in northern Italy.

Piove di Sacca’s annual fair celebrations start in late October and continue into November, ending this year on November 16.

During the celebrations the shops in Piove di Sacca’s historical heart stay open late, and the streets are filled with all matter of stands selling everything from antiques to handicrafts as well as many other bits and bobs.  Adding the festive atmosphere there is a fun fair, and that is not to mention the stands selling the foods and wines of Italy’s Venice region.  Live music from a series of concerts will accompany those browsing all the stalls and stands of Piove di Sacca’s street market.

The timing of this traditional fair make the event perfect for those seeking ideas for original Christmas gifts too.

For little ones there is the added attraction of being able to see horses, cows, donkeys and many other farm animals.  And little boys will love the tractors and other farm machinery on display.
